I figured I’d squeeze off one more show before Elton John shuts down the Internets. This show covers various machinima-related happenings and other news, and includes a good bit of discussion about some of what is going on in the music industry lately, and how that relates to independent content creators of any kind.

Oh yeah, and there’s this…

The STOLEN LIFE DVD GIVEAWAY
Take a survey, Win one of four “Stolen Life” DVDs!

To Enter the Drawing, take this survey by August 20, 2007, and be sure to include your e-mail address! Winners will be announced on August 31, 2007.

Thanks for listening! Let me know what you think.

There wasn’t much of a rant there, Phil. Ok, at the end you went off a bit. But it’s about morons with moronic ideas; who wouldn’t rant at fools? Nah, the show was very enjoyable. Particularly liked the “Stolen Life” coverage. I’ve got to get out there and get that DVD! Man, you are so right about Jade Empire! I love that game, but the lack of tools is ridiculous. The website forum is filled with complaints last time I checked. Too bad since the potential is there for some interesting machinima. BTW, the “Machinima for Dummies’ book seems to be set for an August 27th release according to Amazon.com. Their price is bout $20. You can bet I’ll be picking up that puppy. Sounds great!

Had my own experience with ASCAP when they made a sweep in the Valley here in Los Angeles. They were claiming that the music were were playing in the bookstore (Iliad Bookshop) was a copyright violation even though it was music from our own personal collections that we had purchased. They sent several letters claiming we were using the music to “influence” the buying mood of the customers. We ignored the letters until we began to do some research and found out that the courts have ruled in ASCAP’s favor almost all the time when the sue. WTF? We can only play music via the internet and PC speakers if we want to be legit. Man, it’s crazy.

Loved the machinima.com bit. Hope you do more.

PS forgot to add this to the survey I filled out: can you do just a little coverage of Linux and Machinima? I’ve converted to Linux recently (well, 80%) and am looking around for information and ideas. Just a thought.

    Great show! Thanks, Phil.

Jeff Daniels: “Ahh, you changed! Now I can eat!” LOL!

Interesting form of Soviet-style censorship of the net happening in Kazakhstan: don’t forbid it; just make it too expensive for the potentially unruly masses.

Nice Brit accent while poking fun at that pompous madman across the water!

    Good show, old chap!

My biggest complaint about what Mr. John said was about how creativity would increase if the internet was shutdown. B/s. Minus choir, I’m not much of a modern day music kind of guy. I like mainly classical. But your remix and video of “Only” got me liking Nine Inch Nails (was that a new remix in this episode?) and since then I’ve bought three of their albums. Since then I wrote a 22 page script for a short film inspired by their latest album and have actually started learning how to play piano.

B/s that the internet can’t inspire creativity. That man needs to learn about creativecommons.org and start actually listening to some of the stuff people are putting out.

Now I may be wrong here, but doesn’t Trent Reznor own Nothing Records? I know he was pissed about the high price of his singles in Australia (rightfully so), but I didn’t know that he himself was actually getting boned.

Also liked Bllius’ comments on the YouTube debates. It reminds me of a time when I was playing Rainbow Six: Vegas at a friend’s house. We were playing terrorist hunt and we were clearing this room. There was one guy left and Tim was going to go in but I told him to hang back. I threw a flash in, blinded him, entered and blew the guy away with the Desert Eagle. Tim looked at me, “you would.” I smiled, “Yeah, most likely.” It makes me kind of wonder how chaps like Mitt Romney would approach the same situation! :-P

I thought the MySpace part sounded preachy, but you did bring up a good point that it is in fact a privately owned site. I know I certainly won’t shed a tear for those 20,000 something people that will be MySpace-deprived. You’d think that there are more important issues in the world at hand than sex offenders’ right to use MySpace. Bollocks.

“A sandwich… or a kabob…” That segment was freaking hilarious! More!

    Terrific show, as always!

That Elton John article seems to have appeared in ‘The Sun’.
Now I don’t want the British tabloid press breathing down my neck here…but it is not unknown for ‘journalists’ on these kinds of papers…on a slow week say…to let their imaginations wander. My first instinct is not to believe a word they say.
